Mooloolah means "Place of Darkness" according to the Gubbi Gubbi Traditional Owners. It was always thought by the community that the meaning was "Black Snake", so there are many emblems in Mooloolah bearing the black snake as their logo.
One
can almost imagine Mooloolah River being dark under the rainforest
canopy which was why it was known as "Place of Darkness" by the Gubbi
Gubbi.
The river bends and winds like a snake making the distance by river 270kms long.
